Against the backdrop of a desolate Arctic shore, a lonely fisherman's fate intertwines with that of a frozen prehistoric man encased in ice. As twilight descends, the ice-bound figure defrosts, revealing an unexpected friend and dance partner. Yet, as the dawn's unforgiving light breaks, revelations shatter the facade of their newfound connection. Combining the art of silent narrative, deadpan Nordic humor, and an original soundtrack by avant-garde accordion wizard Kimmo Pohjonen, this acclaimed short film has taken the festival circuit by storm. Its enigmatic storytelling and mesmerizing choreography have earned it both critical praise and an enthusiastic following.

Commissioned and curated especially by Manchester Camerata during these unique times – the 'Untold' series tells the remarkable and intimate personal stories of real people in the community through film, storytelling and prose. In this episode, we tell the moving and uplifting story of Keith who lives with young onset dementia.

We first met Keith back in 2018 at one of our creative music-making sessions in Wigan. Previously a coach driver for football clubs across the northwest, a member of the grenadier guards and an avid music fan, the film tells his personal account of how dementia affects the everyday life of him and his wife Joan. 

Narrated by Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh, written by poet and playwright Amanda Dalton, directed by award-winning Paul Sapin and starring Neil Bell (Dead Man’s Shoes, 24 Hour Party People, Coronation Street), this emotional and deeply personal account set to music chosen by Keith should not be missed.

The film tells his personal account of how dementia affects the everyday life of Keith and his wife Joan.

Hip Hop choreographer Mourad Merzouki brings to life a new work for the technological age. 

Together with his Compagnie Käfig Merzouki is credited with elevating Hip Hop, turning it into a contemporary dance form that is on par with Modern Dance or other expressions of today's dance world. 

This visually stunning co-production between Merzouki and digital artists Adrien Mondot and Claire Bardainne, Pixel was inspired by the everyday confrontation with, ‘’images, video screens, digitalization. Screens surround us.’’ Dancers interact with digital projections, manipulating the synthetic world they exist in.

In 1998 Mourad Merzouki created Récital, in which the energy of hip-hop mingled with the fragile sound of violins to create a dialogue between six dancers. Hip-hop becomes an art form for him and Merzouki´s Compagnie Käfig begins to tour the world. 16 years later he unites five of his choreographer friends and thirty dancers in order to create Répertoire#1which revives the most memorable pieces of the last years and gives these pieces a continuous life while presenting their creators in their esthetic uniqueness.

This new ballet presents a piece each by Kader Attou, Anthony Égéa, Bouba Landrille Tschouda, and Marion Motin and four pieces by Mourad Merzouki to form an evening´s spectacle. The who´s who of French hip-hop repeats what has happened in the arts time and again: a popular movement is elevated to so called high art.

South African brothers Siphe and Mthuthuzeli November dance together for the first time since their childhood in Zolani. 

Both talented dancers, the brothers were separated as children to study at ballet schools a world apart -Siphe with The National Ballet of Canada (Toronto) and Mthuthuzeli with Ballet Black (London, U.K.). In this moving work filmed at the Battersea Arts Centre, they come together to perform a beautiful piece inspired by their relationship as brothers. This piece was part of Fall For Dance North's 2022 festival.
