Sly & Robbie meet Nils Petter Molvaer & Eivind Aarset at Moods

McCoy Tyner began studying piano at age 13 in West Philadelphia. Because a piano could not fit in their house, his mother placed his first instrument inside her beauty parlor. Tyner practiced regularly for customers and neighbors, including jazz legend Bud Powell, who often stopped by to play. John Coltrane heard those neighborhood jam sessions and invited Tyner to join his iconic quartet. Tyner became an innovator of the instrument, world-famous for his intense left-hand drive and rich melodic style. Recorded live at the 2016 Jazz à la Villette festival in Paris, fellow piano masters pay tribute to the legend. Pianist Craig Taborn opens the night with energetic renditions of "Hope" and "Celestial Chant". Geri Allen follows with fiery precision on "Peresina" and "You Taught My Heart to Sing". Finally, Tyner takes the stage alongside bassist Gerald Cannon and percussionist Francisco Mela for a night of pure, expressive jazz.
