Three composers, but one purpose: to enjoy the power of music at its happiest. Gianandrea Noseda and two of the LSO’s own stars share music they simply love. For Franz Liszt, music was a force for good – and when Orpheus strummed his harp, the world became more serene. Nino Rota merely aimed 'to give everyone a moment of happiness', and his exuberant Third Symphony positively sparkles with Italian sunlight. Richard Strauss, meanwhile, saw the clarinet and bassoon as Beauty and the Beast, and his lovely Duett-Concertino retells their tale. It's as magical as it sounds, and a delightful showcase for LSO Principals Chris Richards and Rachel Gough. And then Gianandrea Noseda gets to share one of his own musical passions, too. Nino Rota’s rarely-heard Third Symphony was composed in Italy in the decade of La Dolce Vita, and it’s packed with all the melody, sophistication and style that you’d expect from the man who composed the scores for Amarcord, La Strada and The Godfather.
